LCU has a long history with the CSIRO
LCU is a proud contributor to our CSIRO Alumni Scholarship in Physics, with this year being our 6th year (Dec 2025).
The CSIRO Alumni Scholarship in Physics aims to connect the brightest postgraduate physicists or mathematicians to a leading research centre overseas or in Australia.
Research in physics and mathematics is fundamental for Australia’s future. The founders of this scholarship know that early experience in leading overseas laboratories greatly benefits the graduate embarking on a research career and Australian science.
The scholarship was established in conjunction with generous donations from the family, friends and colleagues of Drs John Dunlop, Tony Farmer, Gerry Haddad and Don Price to honour their memory.
They were leaders and mentors in the physics community, inspiring those around them and they enjoyed nothing more than passing on their skills and knowledge to younger scientists.
It is fitting to honour their memories through the establishment of a post-graduate scholarship based on academic achievement.
We are pleased to be affiliated with the CSIRO Alumni. The CSIRO Alumni was an initiative of the former CSIRO Chief Executive, Dr. Geoff Garrett, and was officially launched in December 2003. Since then, the membership has grown to more than 5,100 members (Dec 2025). and continues to grow.
Whether you’ve enjoyed a vacation placement or worked with CSIRO for many years, anyone who has worked for CSIRO is eligible to join the alumni network and stay in touch.
As the national science agency, CSIRO has spent a century collaborating with industry, government, academia and the community to make life better. Through the alumni website CSIRO looks to strengthen some of our most important partnerships, the rich networks that exist with and between our brains trust. Through the CSIRO alumni network you can connect with each other, attend events, volunteer, mentor, seek or facilitate introductions, and hear the latest news about our research.
Alumni members have the opportunity to keep in touch with other members, renew friendships and create new relationships across science, the community, industry and business. As part of the extended CSIRO community, you will:
