Laboratories Credit Union (LCU)

We are seeking to appoint two to three Associates to join our Board and help shape the future of our member focused financial institution.

Board Associate

Term: 12 months (non-voting role)
Location: Hybrid
Time Commitment: 1-2 days/month
Compensation: as per schedule

THE OPPORTUNITY

LCU is recruiting future leaders who may one day join our Board and gain exposure to high-level governance and strategic decision making. This opportunity is ideal for emerging leaders who are looking to start to build boardroom and commercial experience and contribute fresh insights.

The associates will work closely with board directors and executives, bringing a member-centric and sustainability lens to discussions, to continue our sustainability and growth in the financial market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend (by invitation) and contribute to monthly board meetings (held in evenings) as a non-voting associate
  • Participating in special purpose sub committees who deep dive into specific areas;
  • Contribute your views on the community and direction of LCU in a diplomatic team environment;
  • Contribute insights and generally assist the Board in its Governance obligations
  • Contribute to the workings of the Board as a team, for example by assisting with post-meeting follow-up and special projects
  • Occasional research into a topic to provide information to the Board’s decision making;
  • Identifying and developing initiatives designed to add value to banking;
  • Reviewing activities and performance of management;
  • Input into LCU’s Strategic Plan.

Desired Profile:

  • Desirable if you have had some experience in HR, marketing, business or banking but it is not a requirement if you are willing to research and learn
  • Would suit someone keen to learn about business and governance in the commercial sector
  • Contributing to the diversity of backgrounds of the existing Board is also a desirable factor

Desirable but non-essential

  • Banking Experience – Previous experience working in the financial sector
  • Financial Literacy: Capacity to read and understand financial statements and contribute to financial oversight

ABOUT LCU

LCU is a credit union, which was formed some 70 years ago. We started with just 30 members and have grown to almost 3,500 who are supported by our team of 15 staff. Strategically, LCU is focused on growth (capital and members), sustainability, pathway development and promotion of our financial institution.

TIME COMMITMENT AND REMUNERATION

  • Board meetings are held approximately 10 times per year, with up to two half day Saturdays for Strategic Planning
  • Committee participation may require additional time commitment
  • Associate terms are for one year, which can be extended
  • These positions are remunerated as per our payment schedule
  • There is no guarantee of a Board position
