Scams are becoming more common in Australia with over 200,000* reported scams and $334 million in lost funds*, in 2025 according to ScamWatch.

Taking a moment to stop and check can help protect you from scams. We’re here to support you in staying safe and feeling confident when managing your money.

Below are some simple account safety practices and trusted resources to help you stay scam aware.

Safe Account Practices

  • SMS One Time Password (OTP)
    Your SMS one‑time password is for your use onlyLCU will never ask you to share your SMS OTP — not by phone, text message, or any other method.
  • Confirm Payment Details
    Before making any payment, always double‑check where your money is going. Where possible, confirm payment details verbally and use “Confirmation of Payee” (if available).
  • Phone Scams: What to Watch For
    Scam calls often impersonate well‑known organisations. They may create a sense of urgency or pressure you to act quickly.

If you receive an unexpected call

  •  Take your time and do not feel pressured to act immediately
  • Consider hanging up and contacting the organisation directly using a trusted number
  • Be cautious about sharing personal of financial information

What to do if you’ve been scammed

Being scammed can be upsetting. It can happen to anyone and help is available. If you think something isn’t right:

  • Contact us as soon as possible so we can limit any potential impact
  • Change passwords on your devices and online accounts
  • Notify your other bank or card providers immediately
  • Check your account activity and statements for anything unusual
